Blogging

As a blogger I feel it’s expected of you to have a business Instagram account. That means your account is open to anyone to view everything on your feed & stories. My Insta account has been a business account, until recently. Let me explain why.

Why I took my Instagram blogging profile private

I sat down the other day and really thought about the reach each of my grid images were making; each image was being seen by approximately 500-odd people. Now out of those people, how many are normal and how many are weirdo’s? I have no idea. Even if I looked at each persons profile I would probably still have no idea if the person behind the profile had a secret fetish for small kids, pregnant bellies, etc. And this really started to freak me out.

I very rarely tag the exact location I’m in, I have never (and never will) disclose where Tristan goes to school, but I still worry constantly about child kidnapping. I even emailed his school again yesterday about what controls they have in place to ensure only certain, validated people can pick Tristan up and should anyone out of these people arrive I’d be called immediately to check. It’s something I’m always checking with them because my child’s safety is of the utmost importance to me.

So yes, although I am a blogger and love blogging, I can’t, with good conscious keep my Instagram profile public. Does that mean that brands won’t want to work with me? I don’t know, only time will tell, but I know I will feel more secure knowing who I’m allowing to follow me.

I blog because I want to a. share my story for me, b. help someone else out there and c. capture my life. You can read more about why I blog here.

What are your thoughts?

Do you have a business or a private Instagram account? What are your thoughts on all of this? I’d love to hear from you.

Much love xxx

I’ve considered making my Instagram profile private quite a few times. I’ve been wanting to hear from someone who has done this first though so do let me know how it goes.
